Scams

You know that I am always on the look out for senior scams and the like. Well this one really disturbed me because it is from one of the largest and most trusted pharmacutical companies. I saw it on After 55 and here it is:

It’s another very sad but apparently very true tidbit about how far pharmaceutical companies will go to market their products. An article that is about to be published in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) claims that research studies published by Merck citing authorship by various medical experts, including a paper claiming that the popular pain killer Vioxx may ….click the blue link to read the rest.

A recent ad for veterans death benefits and burial funds caught my eye. Being of the age these types of ads usually catch my attention.

The ad was about burial allowances for Veterans who chose to be interred in a private cemetery instead of a national one.

This makes it appear that the Veteran or his family is financially penalized for using a private cemetery.

This Memorial Park is offering a Certificate of Entitlement up to $750 value, which includes a solid bronze medallion of The Branch of Service.

Wow! up to $750 that’s even better than the $250 Social Security gives out. I should mention that there is No Cost for pre-planning services. It is also stated that they have a limited number of these certificates, so act now.

As usual, a totally mis-leading way to try to trick seniors into contacting them and making financial commitments they do not need.  I hope my readers will see through this phony baloney gimmicks and not fall prey to marketing tricks and ploys.

That’s no way to treat seniors and it certainly is no way to treat those who have served our country in the armed services!

This site provides some real information on veteran funeral benefits and other information.

I was reading a local newspaper paper that had a page called “Health View” – which is actually  an advertisement page. Of course they make it look like it is part of the editorial copy – even though there is fine print that says “paid advertisiment”

In the article, someone asked if hearing test are really free. The answer was : “Yes hearing test
are really free.”
I know a lot of seniors who have had free hearing test.
But I must say, I know none who got free hearing aides.
I always enjoy the “studies”. This one read 2/3 of the population 70 and older can be helped by some type of hearing instrument. We all know our hearing could use some help after 70, as well has our eyes, our sense of smell, yes and other things.
I wonder if anyone over 70 has been told, your hearing is fine, we don’t need to sell you
hearing aides. Probably not.
This is a pretty good check list to reference too:
